Gunshots rang out near Bollywood actor Tiger Shroff’s car in Mumbai’s Juhu area on Sunday evening, wounding two people — including the actor’s driver — in an attack that has put Maharashtra’s government on the defensive and revived an uncomfortable question about how safe film personalities really are in the country’s entertainment capital.
Shroff himself was not hit. Mumbai’s Deputy Commissioner of Police (West Zone-2), Mohit Garg, confirmed the incident and said plainly: “Tiger Shroff is safe. He was not hit by a bullet and he was not injured.”
The driver, identified as Firdaus, took a bullet in his left hand. A second person was also wounded and is being treated in hospital, according to Mumbai Police.
What Police Have Confirmed So Far
The firing was reported in Vile Parle West, within the limits of the Juhu police station. DCP Garg told reporters the incident took place at around 7 pm, as Shroff was heading home after finishing some personal work.
“This incident happened when Tiger Shroff was returning in his car,” Garg said. “He was not hit by any bullet and he is completely safe.”
Multiple police teams have been formed to investigate, and a forensic team has begun its initial examination. Garg said around 15 teams were working on the case, though other reports put the number at 12 — the exact figure has not been officially pinned down. He declined to say how many rounds were fired, telling journalists it would not be appropriate to disclose that at this stage.
News agency IANS, citing Mumbai Police, reported that investigators have started reviewing CCTV footage from surrounding areas to identify the attackers and trace their escape route. Senior police officers also reached the spot to assess the situation.
What remains unclear is the motive. Police have not said why the car was targeted or who fired the shots.
The Video Circulating Online
Several videos of the incident have spread across social media. In one, Shroff’s car can be seen moving through a crowd when roughly four rounds of gunfire ring out, followed by what sounds like a person crying out in pain. Panic follows, with people scrambling to get away.
The clips have intensified public attention on the case, but police have not officially commented on their authenticity or confirmed details drawn from them.
A Gang Claim — Verified by No One Yet
Within hours, the Lawrence Bishnoi gang claimed responsibility for the attack in posts on social media. The claim was made in the names of Anil Pandit and Harman Sandhu, gangsters based abroad who are described as members of the Bishnoi gang. Pandit also posted about the firing on social media.
According to the post, Shroff had been warned over the phone earlier and told to fall in line. “Today this is Tiger Shroff’s job done,” the post read, in part. “We explained to him on the phone, but he did not understand. So today he has been taught a lesson in a fine way. Whoever in the Mumbai film industry does not listen to us or works with Salman Khan, the next number will be his. Wait and watch.”
That is a serious allegation — and an unverified one. Neither the authenticity of the post nor the claims made in it have been officially confirmed, and police have not said whether the gang’s claim factors into their investigation.
Shinde Reassures, Promises a Security Review
Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde moved quickly to calm nerves, saying he had spoken to both Jackie Shroff and his son Tiger after the attack.
“I told Tiger not to worry. The government is with him and he does not need to be anxious,” Shinde said. “We will review the security arrangements of all prominent personalities, and the government is fully committed to ensuring their safety.”
He added a warning of his own: “If anyone tries to frighten or threaten others, the police and the government will not spare them.”
Opposition Pounces on Law and Order
The attack handed the opposition an immediate stick to beat the Devendra Fadnavis government with, and politicians across parties took it.
Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Priyanka Chaturvedi asked where the government was while all this was happening in a city considered the country’s safest. “The Bishnoi gang tried to target Salman Khan, then Rohit Shetty’s name came up, we lost Baba Siddique earlier, and now the Tiger Shroff case has come forward,” she said. “All of this is happening in Mumbai, which is considered the safest city. Hey government, where are you?”
Congress leader Sachin Sawant called the attack extremely serious and said his party wanted to ask what this government had done to Mumbai. “First Baba Siddique was murdered, attackers openly struck at Salman Khan’s residence, and many Bollywood actors and producers are receiving open threats,” he said. “What is the police doing? Such incidents have been rising for the past few years. This government is clearly proving a complete failure.”
Congress MP Varsha Gaikwad wrote on X that law and order in Mumbai was in disarray and asked whether criminals had any fear of the law left. The government and the home department, she said, owed Mumbaikars answers about their safety.
NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar) leader Rohit Pawar pointed to the recent killing of Shiv Sena branch chief Pradeep Purnekar in Thane alongside the Juhu firing. “Fortunately, Tiger Shroff is safe,” he said. “But this raises the question — if the state’s leaders and officials themselves are not safe, what happens to the safety of the common man? If goons have this much sway in the state’s financial capital, which businessman will invest in the state?” He went further, suggesting the home ministry should be handed to a capable minister if the government could not run the state smoothly.
AIMIM leader Waris Pathan called it a complete failure of law and order. “What has happened to Mumbai? Do these people want to take Mumbai back to the 1990s?” he asked, urging the police to act immediately against whoever is guilty.
A Pattern Bollywood Knows Too Well
Sunday’s firing did not happen in a vacuum. Several film industry figures have been attacked or threatened in recent years, and the Bishnoi gang’s name keeps surfacing.
In April 2024, shots were fired outside Salman Khan’s home in Mumbai. The police chargesheet filed in that case mentions gangster Lawrence Bishnoi by name multiple times. In January 2025, actor Saif Ali Khan was attacked with a knife inside his own home at night and had to undergo surgery. In 2024, television actor Raghav Tiwari, known for Crime Patrol, was reportedly assaulted in a road rage incident.
Against that backdrop, the Juhu firing reads less like an isolated shock and more like the latest entry in a list that Mumbai’s film industry — and its police — would very much like to stop growing.
For now, the investigation continues. Multiple teams are on the case, forensic work is underway, CCTV footage is being combed, and the state’s most powerful politicians have been forced to answer for the safety of a city that likes to think of itself as untouchable. Whether the gang’s social media claim turns out to be real, or opportunistic noise, is the question Mumbai Police will need to answer next.
